Papers are invited on the following topics:
I Postcolonial Studies
1. Postcolonial theory. 2. New literatures and new literatures in European
languages. 3. War literature. 4. European poetics in colonised
territories. 5. Literature and nacionalism in postcolonial countries. 6.
Travel literature. 7. Exoticism.
II Literature and mass-media culture
1. Literature and oral cultures. 2. Canon or canons? 3. Pop art and
cultural elites. 4. High art and popular art: literature and cinema,
literature and song, literature and melodrama, popular genres in theatre,
literature and comics, literature and grafitti. 5. Publicity: iconic text
and literary text. 6. Literature and propaganda. 7. Literature and the new
information technologies. 8. Literature and TV. 9. Literature and cultural
ghettos. 10. National traditions and urban myths.
III Discourses in dialogue: texts and poetics
1. Contacts between poetics: literary relations and intersemiotic
relations. 2. Linguistic systems and cultural systems as frontiers or
spaces of cultural contact. 3.Translation studies. 4. Adaptations from
literature to cinema, theatrical performance, music, dance, and the visual
arts. 5. Genres and aesthetic invariables as models for transmission and
reception. 6. Literature and non-literary verbal discourses. 8.
Imagology.
Deadline for submission of abstracts (15-20 lines): December 20, 2000.
Working languages: Portuguese, Spanish, French and English.

Before January 31, 2000: members of APLC: PTE 6000 (Euro 30); non-members:

After January 31, 2000: members of APLC: PTE 9000 (Euro 44); non members:
PTE 12500 (Euro 62).
