MSC HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY AT LONDON GUILDHALL UNIVERSITY
The course is designed for psychology graduates who wish to
go on to careers as professional Health Psychologists in
teaching, research or professional practice, and who aim to
achieve Chartered Health Psychologist status after
completing MSc Health Psychology.
Students study taught modules, participate in practical
workshops, conduct research, and complete a health
psychology placement.
The course is designed to meet all of the British
Psychological Society's requirements and reflects the
latest developments in Health Psychology. Practical and
professional aspects of Health Psychology training are
integrated into the curriculum, including workshops on
vocational aspects of Health Psychology, so that graduates
will have the best possible start with developing
portfolios of professional experience in order to qualify
as Chartered Health Psychologists.
The course also has a distinctive focus on cultural and
life-span aspects of health and illness, and aims to
integrate research and academic content with practical and
professional aspects of Health Psychology training.
The course comprises 7 modules: Research Methods in Health
Psychology, Health Over the Life Span, The Role and Context
of Health Psychology, Cognitive and Emotional Influences on
Health, Responses to Illness, Applications and Practitioner
Skills, and Research Supervision and Support. Teaching is
by lectures, including presentations by visiting experts,
seminars and small group work, professional skills
workshops, practical placements and an independent research
project. Assessment is by examination, course work,
practical assessments and research.
Attendance is two days per week (Thursdays and
Fridays) for 12 months ('full time'), or one day per week
for 24 months ('part time'). Applicants should have a good
Honours degree in psychology or equivalent, and must hold
the British Psychological Society's Graduate Basis for
Registration (GBR) before joining the course.
