Hi all,
I am very interested in the response to the last question, handouts based on
the web. I am part of the TLTP3 project "ELEN" (Extended Learning
Environment Network) which has approximately 25 projects based in various
universities either adapting and implementing TLTP materials (subject specific)
or creating their own resources including lecture notes etc into both a Virtual
Learning Enviroment and the taught modules.
Recent research sessions held with students indicated that they gained more
from the lectures that provided the notes and additional reading on the VLE
than in lectures that didn't as they had a resource to refer to after that was
more accurate than their notes if they were uncertain on a topic. In addition,
those resources which also included a short test where also highly regarded by
the students as an excellent method to reinforce their learning and to check
their understanding of a topic.
I would be very interested in any comments lecturers have in this area.
Many thanks, if you would like more information about ELEN let me know
otherwise I look forward to replies and wish you all a happy Christmas!
Catherine
I am at present investigating the use of handouts within our
programmes. The quantity and indeed quality of these vary
tremendously. Although I question the excessive use of handouts I
do find them a useful learning and teaching tool. Are any of you
willing to share your experience with me in terms of the following
questions:
1. What do you consider to be a useful number of handouts per
session (lecturer)?
2. How do you judge the quality of your handouts?
3. Does your department have a policy on the number of handouts
given to students?
4.Do you think that putting handouts in electronic format, i.e. on
the web or intranet, is helpful?
5. ant other comments you may have regarding this topic.
