Colleagues who are members of the ILT will know that we are commissioning
two series of books which will be available to members at substantially
below the publishers' prices. The first series with Kogan Page will
provide 24 subject-specific guides by practitioners in that field by people
with experience and expertise in teaching and learning in that area.
The first ones to appear in 2001 will be on Effective Learning in Maths,
Law, Business and Management and Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary
Education. In 2001 we plan books on Effective Learning and Teaching in
Engineering, Psychology, Modern Languages and Computing and Information
Sciences. We anticipate commissioning the remaining 16 books over the next
three years. All are to be edited collections, of interest to both UK and
international readers. The topic areas are loosely based round the
organisational groupings of the Learning and Teaching Support Network
centres.
These texts will be supplemented and updated by material which will appear
on members-only areas of the website, which will also provide a forum for
on-line discussion on associated topics. ILT mailbase members' comments are
invited on these plans and on the ways in which traditional texts and web
commentary can most effectively be made to interact.
We are also working with the Open University Press and the Society for
Research in Higher Education to produce research-based books within the
Learning and Teaching series which will be of particular interest to
members. A number of topics for books in this series are currently under
consideration. I would like to invite members of this mailbase to propose
further topics and to identify the key areas in which, in your opinion, I
should be actively soliciting manuscripts.
If you want to discuss a specific proposal for a book in either series,
please contact me direct via my e mail address
