Geodetic Adviser
Location: Southampton, UK
Salary £25 000 - £30 000 depending on experience
Ordnance Survey is Great Britain's National Mapping Agency and is a world
leader in digital mapping, geographical information, and consumer and
leisure mapping. The Geodetic Adviser is the senior professional geodesist
in Ordnance Survey. You will be responsible for designing and overseeing
the implementation of the infrastructure and services which deliver high
accuracy co-ordinate positioning to surveyors throughout Great Britain,
including Ordnance Survey's own continuous Data Collection operation. This
infrastructure includes the OS National GPS Network, the largest integrated
GPS reference network in Britain. You will be expected to introduce new
technology as it becomes available to maximise the quality and availability
of precise co-ordinate positioning services in this country.
The Geodetic Adviser manages our Key Investment Programme in Positioning
Development and our Scientific Geodesy service on behalf of government. You
will represent OS in the international geodetic community. The mix of
technical and managerial skills required is unique in British Geodesy. You
must hold a postgraduate degree in geodesy, preferably with a PhD degree in
a topic related to precise satellite positioning. You must be able to
demonstrate strong communication skills with audiences ranging from
laypeople to research scientists. You should have a strong interest in
programme management, policy making, and influencing people.
