EDINA is a UK national data centre (see http://edina.ac.uk/). Based at
Edinburgh University Data Library, EDINA is funded by the Joint
Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the higher education funding
councils, and forms part of the 'virtual library' for staff and students
in UK higher education. EDINA currently hosts a total of 18 bibliographic
and geo-data services. A key strategic objective is to improve access to
geographic data, via the Internet, using Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) and related technologies.
Software Engineer - Geo-services
Developer required for leading-edge projects to deliver geographic
information via the Internet. This offers the opportunity to work with
emerging technologies such as XML, Java, CORBA, and Java Servlets. Ideally
you will have sound experience of UNIX and one or more of the following:
web programming, CGI scripting, programming in Perl, Java or C++ on UNIX.
An interest in computer graphics or data visualization would also be
useful.
Appointment, for up to 2 years, will be on salary scale £18,915 - £24, 479
p.a.
