London Borough of Camden GIS Unit
GIS Officer
£ 27,168 to £ 29,337 pa inc
This post will be on a one year fixed term contract in the first instance
with the possibility of a permanent post
In 1998 Camden adopted MapInfo based technology as its Corporate GIS
Standard, and a GIS Unit was created. This Unit and the BS7666 project have
full corporate backing and you will work in an environment where GIS is
recognised and accepted as an enabling tool and a mechanism for integrating
systems.
The GIS Unit takes a lead in assisting and advising departments on the use
of GIS and is also involved in implementing systems and developing custom
applications using MapX and MapBasic. We currently have 75 MapInfo licences
and 110 MapX licences.
In this new post, working in a team with two cartographers you will assist
the manager in promoting GIS. You will have the opportunity to become
involved, and take the lead in, a variety of projects and will deputise for
the GIS manager in their absence.
Some of the current activities of the unit include:
* Overseeing BS7666 Gazetteer Development and the roll out of corporate
spatial RDBMS.
* Developing a GIS Unit Intranet site and an Intranet based GIS Viewer
application.
* Managing data on the corporate GIS server.
* The acquisition, scanning and rectification of Historic OS mapping and
land contamination work.
* Virtual reality and 3D modeling.
We are looking for someone with all round GIS experience and, although not
essential, a strong preference will be given to applicants that can
demonstrate experience and use of MapInfo applications and knowledge of
Relational Databases.
Camden values the diversity of its community and aims to have a workforce
which reflects this. We therefore encourage applications from all sections
of the community.
