Manchester Geomatics is a new company, spun off from the Manchester Regional
Research Laboratory in the School of Geography. It is based at the
University of Manchester Campus Ventures Centre and specialises in work that
involves spatial knowledge management. Current work includes projects for
Health Authorities that involve the management of information from many
sources and its presentation using a map based interface on the WWW and a
collaboratively sponsored project to build a Joined-Up-Geography Testbed for
research on geographical data structures and data quality.
We are seeking a graduate trainee with a background in some of the
following, geographical information systems, database management, web
design, data analysis or programming in PERL, Visual Basic or C++.
Candidates will be expected to hold a relevant first degree or Masters and
have some project experience. Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn will be
more important than specific skills, however candidates will be expected to
demonstrate the successful completion of one or more relevant projects and
to have a good general degree of IT literacy. A proven ability to write
technical project reports and to deal directly with clients will also be a
considerable advantage.
Salary negotiable around #17k based on skills and experience.
