Postdoctoral Positions in Seismic Imaging and Modeling
The Seismic Imaging and Modeling team of the Los Alamos Seismic
Research Center at Los Alamos National Laboratory
is seeking highly motivated candidates for possible postdoctoral
positions working on the development and implementation of
wave-equation-based seismic migration methods, AVO/AVA analysis, and 3D
elastic wave modeling. Candidates with extensive research experience in
any of the following areas are invited to apply: seismic migration,
seismic reservoir characterization, and 3D numerical modeling of wave
propagation. Extensive experience in FORTRAN coding is required for the
positions in imaging and AVO/AVA analysis, and in C coding is required
for the position in modeling. Experience in parallel computing using
MPI and in seismic data processing is desired. The successful candidate
will have a demonstrated record of scientific research including
publications and presentations, as well as the ability to work within a
multidisciplinary research team. Part of the formal postdoctoral
application process includes the preparation of a 1-page proposal to be
written after consultation with a Los Alamos collaborator. For further
technical details, please contact Dr. Lianjie Huang at [log in to unmask], or
Dr. Peter Roberts at [log in to unmask] for the position in modeling.
Annual starting salaries currently range from $54,100 to $58,300, plus a
generous and comprehensive benefits package. The period of the initial
appointment is for 2 years, with the possibility of renewal for up to
4 years. Los Alamos is located in the beautiful Jemez mountains of
northern New Mexico. The area is close to Santa Fe and Taos and offers
outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities.
A Ph.D. in Geophysics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science,
or a related area completed within the last three years or soon to be
completed is required. Candidates may compete for a Los Alamos
Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for
the prestigious J. Robert Oppenheimer, Richard P. Feynman or Frederick
Reines Fellowships. Further details about the Postdoctoral Program may
