A Research Fellow is required to work on an ESRC funded
multi-disciplinary project investigating the causes and consequences
(in terms of disaster prevention) of the 1999 Turkish earthquake. This
is a collaborative project between Professor Penny Green (School of
Law) and Dr Abbas Al Hussaini (Department of Architecture). The
research will combine social science and earthquake engineering in the
innovative development of a causal framework. The post will be based
in the School of Law.
The successful candidate should have a relevant higher degree in the
social sciences or engineering, or significant expertise and a proven
track record in research and publication in a relevant field.
A working knowledge of Turkish is desirable but not essential.
The researcher will be required to:
- compile an extensive literature survey
- conduct some field research in Turkey
- carry out interviews with a range of developers, contractors,
lawyers, academics and local officials
- develop a data-base
- establish academic and professional contacts
- co-ordinate research visits for principal researchers
- liaise with the project directors
- to assist with data analysis
- prepare draft final report
