VACANT POSITIONS
RESEARCH SCIENTISTS - MINERAL RESOURCES GROUP
The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) has one, possibly two, permanent
research positions with its Section for Mineral Resources. The Mineral
Resources Group has 23 employees and is currently expanding in the field of
mineral characterisation. The range of analytical techniques on offer (SEM,
microprobe, image analysis, XRD, XRF, geochemistry, LA-ICP-MS), are combined
with the traditional field-based approach to provide innovative research of
Norwegian deposits of ores, industrial minerals and natural stone. NGU is
eager to provide a state of art service to the mineral industry.
We are seeking applications from:
Candidates who will work as an applied mineralogist on a variety of
research and contract projects. It is expected that the successful candidate
has the ability to develop contacts with the mineral resource industry and
has the experience and character necessary to be able to win contracts,
formulate proposals and present the results both orally and in written
reports. Although a background in industrial minerals would be of advantage,
candidates experienced in other fields of applied mineralogy are encouraged
to apply. Although completion of a doctorate degree in a relevant research
field will be regarded as of advantage, emphasis will be placed upon the
practical abilities and experience of the applicant. The survey expects to
acquire its own SEM instrumentation in late 2000 and the successful
candidate is expected to be involved in the installation and setting up of
this instrument. The range of analytical tools will also be used to carry
out innovative research. The successful candidate is expected to possess
good team skills and the motivation necessary to play a leading role in
project work.
Candidates who are confident and experienced scientists both in the
laboratory and the field. She/he is expected to work within the fields of
industrial minerals, ore deposits and building stone on a variety of
research and contract projects. She/he is expected to combine scientific
research and publication at a first-class level with the practical ability
to produce results which are of relevance to contract partners. Although a
background in mineral resource geology and/or mineralogy/petrology would be
ideal, candidates with a background in other fields of the geological
sciences are encouraged to apply. Although completion of a doctorate degree
in a relevant research field will be regarded as of advantage, emphasis will
be placed upon the motivation of the applicant to work well as a member of a
team on a variety of research projects in areas of the geosciences.
