Subject: Announcement of Meeting April 19/20 2001
April 19th/20th 2001,London,Burlington House.
Title: Metals in the weathering environment: From Ores to the Biosphere
Meeting convened jointly by the Mineralogical Society and the Minerals
Deposits Studies Group
This two day meeting is to be held between April 19th and 20th 2001 at
Burlington House (home of the Geological Society).
Current research on metals in the weathering environment spans such diverse
and important fields of interest as supergene ore formation, corrosion of
steel and pollution and bioavailability.Much of this research involves
similar technology and is underpinned by the same theoretical principles. The
aim of this meeting is to encourage collaboration between workers in these
different areas and with theoretical and experimental chemists studying
relevant topics such as metal speciation and reaction modelling at low
temperatures and pressures. There will be keynote papers on supergene ore
formation, bioavailability and mineral formation/metal speciation at low T
and P. Those interested in presenting talks and posters should contact:
C.M.Rice (University of Aberdeen,<[log in to unmask]>) or
R J Herrington (Natural History Museum) ([log in to unmask]).
