Dave and all,
This is a terrible tragedy - I can't say how profoundly shocked I am. Alice showed great promise as a perceptive, thorough and hard working scientist and her presence will be sorely missed. If you are in touch with her family, please pass on my sincerest sympathies.

Dear Dave,
Needless to say, me and Torgeir and the other Norwegians who met
Alice are deeply shocked and sad after hearing about this tragic
accident. We all enjoyed having her around and she was highly
regarded as a young scientist. A great loss indeed.
