Hello everyone,
Tim Kusky recently inquiried about kyanite in peraluminous
granodiorites - tonalites from Alaska. I have a similar inquiry from
the opposite pole. Sillimanite forms prisms up to 10 cm long and 4
cm across in pegmatites in granulite-facies rocks of Antarctica: the
ultrahigh-temperature Archean Napier Complex and less extreme
Proterozoic rocks near Prydz Bay. I am interested in references to
other reports of pegmatitic sillimanite in granulite-rocks and to
discussion on the conditions conducive to crystallization of
magmatic sillimanite.
Thanks,
Ed Grew
