Dear Scott,
This is in response to your query about how to "acquire very sharp
photo micrographs of areas as large as 2 to 4 inches across" (I presume that
you mean thin sections).
A high-tech solution is not automatically the best solution. For
truly spectacular and unsurpassable results, I recommend the method outlined
by Anna Gavasci & Tom Eastler (Geological Society of America Bulletin, v.
83, p. 2843-2851) or a variation thereof.
