Hi All,
Having worked a lot in course-grained igneous and metamorphic rocks, I am
constantly in need of an instrument that can acquire very sharp
photomicrographs of areas as large as 2 to 4 inches across. Over the years I
have used the Wild M420 Macroscope and the Leitz Aristophot. The Macroscope
gave great shots if one used the very expensive Apozoom lens, but
occasionally it would be nice to have a wider field of view. The Aristophot
always worked well, but was a pain to use.
I am in the market for some "new" equipment, and as we enter the age of
digital photomicroscopy I wonder has anyone found a good modern solution for
big-area photomicrographs (with polarization capability)? I know some of you
piece together larger digital images from several smaller ones taken through
normal microscopes. However, I am interested in a one-shot solution, under
the assumption that a high resolution digital camera is being used.
By the way, does anyone out there have a Leitz Aristophot they would like to
sell (they don't make them anymore)? If so, please reply directly to my
email address.
Cheers - Scott
