<< Hi everybody,
my name is Betty and I am studying Comparative Religion at Soas. At present
I am working on an essay and I would find helpful to know how many of you
think that the study of Gender constitute a paradigm shift in the study of
religions. Do you think such shift has taken place or would you rather say
that it will happen very very slowly? How many of you see it as something
not only desiderable but also obtainable? And finally, who of you think
that the paradigm shift will remain an ideal?
Any contribution will be very welcome and appreciated.
Thank you

I definitely feel that the study of gender in religion is a paradigm shift.
Since the 1st millineum BCE, religion has explained to people why life on
earth is so miserable, and offered them a way out -- whether an afterlife,
reincarnation, or whatever. And one of the features of this misery is the
domination, abuse, and mistreatment of women. Thus, religion has helped to
rationalize and justify male supremacy.
Thanks,
Nancy
