Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the discussion of period
terminology.
Can I take the quiet couple of days on the list to mean that list members
feel that the issues (at least the theoretical ones) have been aired
adequately?
If so, the next step is to put together a sample standard for list members
to review, building on the discussion over the last few days. the English
Heritage Data Standards Unit are working on this, but, inevitably, it's
going to be a while before there's anything to look at.
Can I suggest that in the mean time we take discussion forward in a new
area? This may be a useful time for you to have a look at the short fishen
document 'whatnext' which identifies a variety of areas that FISHEN wants to
take forward. You can get a copy by sending the following email to
[log in to unmask]
get fishen whatnext.txt
stop
Any of the issues identified in that document may be subjects for
discussion, but I suggest that our next target be finalising the new units
of information for the recording of Maritime archaeology, which we started
discussion of in December. I'll repost my mailing from then to the list next
week.
Best wishes and thanks again to our 'speakers'
Edmund Lee
