Good point, but in my experience the SMR/NMR Archaeological Report forms are themselves perpetuating this attitude, with, in London at least, the latest possible designated period being POST MEDIEVAL. So come on SMR people, ditch these untenable ideas and allow for archaeology in the modern world - whenever this is deemed to start!
