Dear All,
In response to John Oxley's clue:
>Hidden well away inside this document is the statement that, for reasons of
>interoperability and a common infrastructure, use of XML
I managed to track something down at:
http://www.iagchampions.gov.uk/guidelines/websites/design.html
The full text reads as follows:
4.5.2.2: XML
Extensible Mark-up Language (XML) is becoming a powerful tool for use on the
Internet and it is likely to facilitate many interactive applications
including
Where a user will need to interact with more than one database to gain the
information they require
Where it is envisaged that tasks will be handed over to the user, allowing
users to access their own records or documentation. Where different sets of
data will have to be displayed to different users - personalisation.
Where there is a requirement to build a profile of user preferences in
regard to information retrieval and display
However, there is no backward compatibility between XML and HTML and web
designers should be mindful of the need to consider the needs of those who
use older browsers which do not support XML.
