Muga,
The sparse solver is no longer specified on the *heading card in v5.8. You
specify the sparse solver on the command line when you submit you job, e.g.
abaqus job=..... solver=sparse
However according to the v5.8 manuals, the sparse solver is the default. I
don't know why that wouldn't be the case in your instance, unless you are
restarting a job that was run with the wavefront solver. Maybe someone else on
the list can provide more insight.

Subject: Lanczos in ABAQUS v5.8
I tried to use Lanczos algorithm in abaqus by using:
*frequency, EIGENSOLVER=LANCZOS
However an error message appeared saying:
Sparse solver must be used.
Actually, I specified Sparse solver in the keyword:
*heading, sparse.
The algorithm is only available for abaqus v5.8 and I have only access to
the manual for v5.7. I guess that I must specify the sparse solver when
specifying the use of Lanczos algorithm.
Could any one over there please give me further information about the usage
of the Lanczos algorith in abaqus v5.8.
Thanks.
Muga
