CADE2001 DIGITAL CREATIVITY: CROSSING THE BORDER

Computers in Art and Design Education Conference
Glasgow
9 - 12 April 2001

http://www.gsa.ac.uk/cade

Call for participation
------------------------
The CADE Conference which takes place every two years has already become one
of the world’s principal forums for digital creativity in Art and Design
Education. In recognition and in celebration of the interdisciplinary and
international character of digital media, the CADE2001 conference will cross
the boundaries that have tended to define digital creativity as a specialist
discipline only for experts. Most practitioners and educationists in art
and design now acknowledge the wide-ranging impact of digital media, even
though they may not yet recognise the character of its potential nor how to
engage with it.

The 2001 conference will cross into the realm where digital creativity can
be recognised as relevant to all. The conference will also cross the
borders that isolate art and design from other subjects that value
creativity. Subjects such as the performing arts and architecture will
therefore be included, and the many connections with science and technology
will also be a focus of attention. The conference will additionally cross
the border separating higher education from other sectors of education to
address the broader issues of how students learn and explore digital
creativity. The conference will also seek to cross cultural boundaries too
in terms of both internationalism and multi-cultural society.

For the first time, this UK based conference will cross the English border
into Scotland to take place in Glasgow, one of the world's leading centres
of the arts, design and architecture. In addition to enjoying a powerfully
stimulating conference, delegates will be able to explore this uniquely
exciting city.

Glasgow School of Art will host the conference in association with the Royal
Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and the facilities of both institutions
will be available. There will also be connections with the numerous
exhibition and performance spaces, and artist and designer led projects that
make Glasgow such a thriving cultural community. Project proposers may
therefore envisage a diverse range of venues including galleries, workshops,
theatres and other performance spaces, and cinemas.

Invitation to submit proposals
------------------------
CADE20001 invites proposals for contributions of all kinds. The
inclusiveness of the programme will be reflected at expert, postgraduate
student and beginner levels, and with equal focus on creative practice,
research, and learning and teaching. The following list of categories is an
indication of the range of proposals we are keen to consider, but this list
is not exclusive. Potential contributors should feel free to propose
anything they can imagine.

Curated Exhibitions; Debates; Demonstrations; Email Discussion Lists;
Installations; Keynote Addresses; Papers; Performances; Personal
Exhibitions; Screenings; Seminars; Themed Forums; Video Conferences;
Web-based Presentations; Workshops

All submissions will be refereed by an international panel.

Method for submission of proposals
------------------------
Potential contributors should submit a written description of their
proposal, or an abstract of their paper, at a maximum word length of 500
words, together with any relevant visual documentation, by 31st October
2000.
