Dear list members,
INTA, in co-operation with the Ministry for Housing of Morocco, is
organising a seminar in November this year on the constraints and
conditions of building cities in critical natural environments.
The seminar consists of a series of case presentations with in-depth debate
on the operational conditions required for these specific cities. Several
technical tours are organised to cities and settlements in isolated
environment in Southern Morocco. The exchange of knowledge and experiences
is centred on 10 critical areas which will be treated either in formal
sessions or in the course of the visits:
1. Urban planning principles in isolated environment
2. Local construction material , new products, process and material,
appropriate architectural forms
3. Economics of Water : desalinisation plant, waste treatment
4. Energy : micro power plant, renewable energy, maintenance of energy networks
5. Waste management : waste dumping and recycling
6. Sand encroachment (or snow encroachment) : ports , roads, towns
7. Developing a town around micro economic poles such as fisheries,
greenhouses, special tourist projects
8. Accessibility, transport and communication
9. Maintenance of industrial infrastructure under harsh climatic conditions
10. Social and cultural services : the potential of new technologies
A more detailed programme and agenda is attached.
Therefore, I am asking your assistance in identifying the most relevant
cases/practices as well as potential speakers whom you might consider
relevant to our meeting.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation,
Yours sincerely,
Michel Sudarskis
