Paul K here
Like many people I am disappointed when travelling to new places to find
the same old retail chains and fast food outlets. However it was pointed
out to me (and you all may have heard such comments too) that it is only a
tiny affluent minority of the worlds population, that can afford to travel,
who experiences this homogenisation.
Setting aside any problems that may be associated with the power of
multinationals I wonder whether this homogenisation is in itself a bad
thing or does it merely contribute to the jading of the palate of the
(relatively) privileged. If social diversity arises from lack of equal
access is it a prize or a cost?
Kind regards
Paul K
