Personally I see nothing wrong with harvesting a few ice bergs. If we could
put a dent in the amount of them in the north atlantic, then there would be
less risk to oil tankers, and fishing boats. However, I think the oldest ice
in the world is a bit shy of 450 thousand years. Homo sapiens probably
evolved about 250 thousand years ago when it parted company with Homo
neanderthal.....
I think that the harvest would be less damaging ecologically than diverting
water out of the Great Lakes....besides the cost of treating contaminated
water for drinking is enormous. I don't think ice bergs should be harvested
on the West Coast of North America though...
