Dear Minna,
I know that Imperial College have made copies of their large Hollow Cylinder
(as described by Hight, Gens and Symes, 1983) for other institutions
(Bristol University and Nanyang Technological University). If you haven't
already spoken to Richard Jardine or Steve Ackerley (Chief Technician) at IC
then it would be worth approaching them. However, you need to be aware that
such a large device needs very good technical support.
Regards
David

Subject: hollow cylinder apparatus
Dear all,
We are planning of getting a hollow cylinder apparatus in order to
extend our investigations on anisotropy of soft clays (see
http://scmep.civil.gla.ac.uk for more details) to general
three-dimesional stress space (including the rotation of principal
stress axis). We are interested on the full stress-strain behaviour
rather than just the conditions at failure.
Does anyone of you know any manufacturers etc. who would be supplying
commercial or semi-commercial hollow cylinder apparatuses? I would be
interested in getting technical descriptions, quotations and/or just
possible contact info.
I would also appreciate if any of you, who have experience on hollow
cylinder testing, in particular on soft soils, would share your
experience with us.
My contact info can be found below. I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Minna
