Hi
Does anyone have any specific info/thoughts on the mechanism of leakage
through geomembranes (say welded HDPE or Polypropylene liners) overlying
clay soil lining material. My lit. search so far has identified a lot of
references on the performance of soil liners (for landfills etc), but no
specific coverage of the manner in which leakage from small defects in the
membrane (say up 20mm2) may affect flow into a partially saturated
underlying soil. The model I have considered is along the lines of a
miniature single ring infiltrometer concept, but this of course needs the
effective area of the ring to be established. Is it the same as the
membrane defect area, or is there a fluid spreading effect to be allowed for
at the soil/membrane interface?
Thanks
