Dear colleagues
The geotechnical solutions for constructing over soft soils have been moving from heavy mechanical dependent solutions to more sofisticated ones. I believe that this area still will develop to even more elegant solutions, and I suspect that we in the future will support us more at chemical and electrical methods - perhaps even involving micro-biological processes. However, the tendence in modern engineering is to avoid use of heavy materials, manual labor and systems of complicated transmission. We are today interested in solutions beneficiating the environment and saving energy.
So, one method I and my company TNG is studying is electo-osmose. In a short future, we will in associatipn with other companies iniciate practical experiments with this method. The experiments will take place in the southern Brazil. To avoid making the same eventual mistakes as others, I would like to exchange my theoretical knowledge in this area with geotecnic engineers who have some practical experience of electo-osmose. Specially, I am interested to find the tecno-economic ideal current, geometry, distance and number of the electrodes, as an function of soil and water content.
Regards,
MSc Thomas Ulf Nilsson
