Greetings:
Does anyone have quantifiable evidence of the effect of varying the size of
the toe closure plate on a closed end pile (i.e. larger or smaller than pile
diameter) driven in stiff clay?My first impression is that would have the
opposite effect of a tapered pile, with a corresponding decrease in shaft
resistance. In a very stiff or hard clay, presumably, the result of an
oversized toe plate would be akin to dropping a pile down a predrilled
hole.Has anyone any comparative data, or know of any published work on
this?Thanks, Mike
