: Description: The two courses are interwoven over the course of four
week=

: to provide a thorough and intensive forum in which students can learn
: about marine mammals and their conservation from some of the top marine
: mammalogists and other scientists in the country. The courses are
: geared towards upper-level undergraduates and graduate
: students. Specifically, the courses provide the following: 1) an
: opportunity to observe or to engage in research with a wide variety of
: marine mammal species either in the wild or in a zoological park
: setting; 2) fundamental principles of behavioral ecology, evolution,
: communication, cognition, functional morphology, and
: physiology; 3) application and illustration of these principles using
: several marine mammal species; 4) hands-on opportunities to engage in
: field and laboratory techniques used in marine mammal research; 5) the
: chance to get to know a number of leading marine mammal scientists and
: educators, including authors of the new textbook for the courses; and
: 6) exposure to and discussion of policy and conservation efforts

: these topics at both the national and international levels. The

: meet approximately 6-8 hours each weekday---total immersion in the
: topic! Evaluations will be based on participation in discussions,
