Subject: Studentship in Sociology of Science & Technology
Below are details of a PhD studentship in the Department of Sociology,
University of York. All applicants are welcome but I hope that members
of the list will encourage students who have interests in the gendered
aspects of Science and Technology Studies to apply.
Anne Akeroyd, Department of Sociology,
-----------------------------------------
The Science and Technology Studies Unit (SATSU) and the Department of
Sociology in the University of York invite applications for a 3-year
doctoral research studentship in the Sociology of Science, Technology
and the Environment, to commence Oct 2000. Candidates should have a good
first degree and/or Masters level qualification in a relevant
discipline. The Department welcomes applications on a diverse range of
empirical topics but which are methodologically focussed and relevant to
debates in Science and Technology Studies.
Research studentships comprise a tuition fee waiver (at the home/EU
rate) and an annual maintenance grant which is expected to be at the
standard research council rate (currently #6620). Award-holders will be
required to undertake 66 hours of teaching each year in the Sociology
Department. Research studentships will be awarded for
up to three years of full-time study towards the MPhil or DPhil degree,
subject to satisfactory academic progress and satisfactory performance
of teaching duties.
