Subject: Re:Spammed by the US Republican National Committee
Miranda Mowbray's example of viral marketing for politics is fascinating
and a lesson for all marketers!
But she accuses the campaign of generating spam. On the site, when I looked
at it today, there was a link marked "Breaking privacy news" to a page
which claimed that "unknown third party organisations are sending out e
mails that purport to be on behalf of the eChampions program from lists
that are not under our control. The intent of this unsavory operation is to
falsely accuse us of engaging in inappropriate e mail campaigns. If you
have received an unsolicited e mail regarding our initiative be assured it
was not generated by us."
So either the Republicans are using spam and then defusing it with this
message (not a bad idea perhaps!) or someone is trying to taint the
Republican campaign. For my part I think the latter is more likely and the
Republicans are guilty of nothing worse than a split infinitive!
