IT-Based Management: Challenges and Solutions
A book edited by Luiz A. Joia, Rio de Janeiro State University, Brazil
Information Technology has changed heavily the way organizations must be
managed. However, old paradigms are still used in Business Administration.
IT has changed Strategic Management, Marketing, Logistics, Organizational
Design, Human Resources Management, Accounting and so forth. It is unfair to
use the old strategic models developed during the industrial era; not to
consider the role Internet has in the Marketing frameworks; to despise new
organizational architectures; or even do not understand that Logistics and
Supply Chain Management must be innovated with the use of Information
Technology. Concepts like Learning Organization, Intellectual Capital,
Knowledge Management, Performance Evaluation, Electronic Commerce and the
like lies heavily on the possibilities enabled by Information Technology.
Every facet of Management needs to be rethought by academics and
practioners, from Strategy to Logistics, from Marketing to Accounting, from
Organizational Design to Personnel Management, just to name a few, taking
for granted the turmoil IT has created for the companies around the world
and the very need they have to find new modus-operandi and business models.
The main target of this book is to present how IT has created a New Mandate
for Management as a whole and for its branches, so as to develop new
business models and frameworks based on the importance IT plays in these
fields.
Representative topics include but are not limited to the following:
