4th Kiel Workshop in Economics on the Microeconomics of the New Economy
Call for Papers
New information and communication technologies are transforming the way
we
do business, the way we work, invest and consume. In these activities
information is playing an ever increasing role both as an input and as
an
output. By reducing economic distance, the technological advances
further
open up the road to more integrated goods and factor markets world-wide.
These exciting developments pose new challenges for economic theory and
economic policy. To study these issues, the Kiel Institute of World
Economics will host its 4th Kiel Workshop in Economics on the Microeconomics
of the New Economy on 21-22 September 2001.
The workshop provides a platform for presenting and discussing research
on
the New Economy. We particularly welcome empirical contributions and
contributions with a European focus. Papers should concentrate on the
following topics:
The Economics of Information
* Increasing Returns, Product Differentiation and Pricing
Strategies
* Demand-side Network Externalities
* (Non-)Appropriability of Information
* Information as an Experience Good
Competition and Business Structures in the New Economy
* Vertical and Horizontal Boundaries of the Firm
* Corporate Governance
* Market Structures
Information and Markets
* Banking and Capital Markets
* Skills, Incentive Structures and Labor Markets
* Goods Markets
Policy Issues of the New Economy
* National and International Regulatory Policy
* Antitrust Issues
* Private Sector Initiatives
The workshop will be held at the Kiel Institute of World Economics,
Germany.
The deadline for submissions is June 29, 2001. Preference will be given
to
complete papers. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their
paper
by July 31, 2001. The Kiel Institute will cover local costs for all
participants and will offer a partial reimbursement of travel costs.
