Subject: Introduction
My name is Arthur Asa Berger and I'm a professor in the Broadcast &
Electronic
Communication Arts Department at San Francisco State University, where I've
taught since 1965. I am currently finishing a book on video games that
deals
with their social, psychological and cultural significance. I also have
published a few books
this year: Media & Communication Research Methods (Sage); Ads, Fads and
Consumer
Culture (Rowman and Littlefield), and Jewish Jesters (Hampton Press). Any
cyber-society
readers interested in satires of academia might find some comic mysteries
I've written worth
looking at: Die Laughing (IUniverse.com); The Hamlet Case (Fatbrain.com);
and
Postmortem for a Postmodernist (AltaMira Press). I'm a big fan of POD
(print-on demand)
publishing made possible by the Internet and new printing technologies and
am
getting some books ready to publish with dot.com publishers such as
IUniverse
$99 for a book) and Xlibris (they publish your book for free). I'm
semi-retired
from SFState and only teach one course in the Fall, on writing situation
comedies.
This might prompt someone to ask, "Is this what goes on in universities
nowadays?" or
"From this he's making a living?"
