A POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH POSITION

Area:
User oriented evaluation of ICT systems for Collaborative Work
The section for Psychology of Work and Organisation is particularly
interested in issues of work in knowledge-intensive organisations. The main
focus is on new ways of working in relation to
* Virtual communities and teams
* human-computer-interaction
* taskdesign for ICT supported work
* (mediated) communication
* knowledge sharing
The research is conducted as part of academic collaboration projects and
national and international programs, such as those of the European Union.
The postdoc's task will be particularly related to the further development
of (social scientific) evaluation methods in relation to the use and effects
of ICT in various types of organisation. This project is part of a research
program called Building blocks for Effective Telematics Application
Development and Evaluation, a program in which researchers from computer
science, policy analysis and social science participate.

We are looking for a researcher who has completed a doctorate (no more than
five years ago). The position implies a large degree of freedom in pursuing
the research in the framework of the Betade program. There are minimal
administrative and teaching duties.
A candidate is required to have or to acquire mastery of the Dutch language
to be considered for the position
Candidate profile
* PhD in work and organisational psychology, organisational behaviour,
worksociology, communication sciences or related area's
* Knowledge of and interest in the field of information systems and
CSCW
* Knowledge of social science research methods (quantitative,
qualitative)
* Willingness and being able to work in multidisciplinary settings.
The section of Work and Organisation Psychology has two research streams:
1. ICT-enabled individual work: The focus is the individual work setting in
general, positioned within an organisation, but especially with regard to
ICT and IT applications, interfaces and functionality, and the tasks the
individual has to perform.
Objects of research: human-computer interaction or human-media interaction:
issues as for instance usability, characteristics of tasks, task load and
stress on one hand and competence and skills, opportunities for training of
the individual on the other hand. Relevant theories: cognitive theory,
action theory, activity theory, stress theories, selection theories,
taskanalysis methods, HRM
2. Distributed group work: The field of interest concerns distributed
teamwork and knowledge management, supported by ICT applications within
various types of organisations. The focus lies on collaborative work:
knowledge sharing, communication, co-operation and co-ordination.
Object of research: collaboration between and knowledge sharing by
individuals performing tasks in teams or communities. The following issues
will be part of the research: sharing of knowledge and knowledge management,
communication, teamstructure and -effectiveness, leadership, groupware,
joint task performance.
Relevant theories: social psychology and groupdynamics ( e.g. effective team
theories, activity theory, structuration theory), psychology of organisation
(e.g. learning theories, implementation- and adoption theories),
communication theory (e.g. Media choice theory)
The section is part of the Department of Information, Communication and
Systems, which has approximately 40 faculty. Opportunities are good for
interdisciplinary collaboration with other groups at the University, with
groups in the Netherlands and internationally. The section has longstanding
