ADVANCE CALL FOR PAPERS
1st International Conference On
'INNOVATION IN ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION (AEC)'
18-20th July 2001
Centre for Innovative Construction Engineering (CICE)
Department of Civil & Building Engineering
Loughborough University, UK
BACKGROUND AND AIM
The need for innovative approaches to design and construction is now
recognised by most sectors of the construction industry. The Centre for
Innovative Construction Engineering at Loughborough University was set up
in April 1999 to address emerging research issues in the construction
industry and to develop innovative solutions to industry problems. The CIB
Task Group TG 35 and Working Commission W102 are also addressing aspects of
innovation in the AEC sector. In addition to the above, there is a
considerable body of ongoing research work that is geared towards
innovation in the design and construction processes. The scope of these
projects encompasses the use of innovative materials, innovative design
concepts, innovative construction methods, novel procurement methods,
innovative deployment of IT tools, etc. The aim of this conference,
therefore, is to act as a focal point for the dissemination of the results
from ongoing studies, applications and demonstration projects throughout
the world. It is intended that the conference will bring together
practitioners and researchers interested in innovative approaches to design
and construction in the AEC sector.
SCOPE
The scope of the conference is wide, covering the AEC (architecture,
engineering and construction) sector. Papers are invited from both industry
practitioners and researchers on the following and related topics:
- Innovation in design (architectural, structural, services, etc.);
- Innovative construction methods and processes;
- Innovative procurement methods;
- Innovative construction technologies;
- Innovative approaches to collaborative working;
- Innovative approaches to project delivery;
- Novel construction planning and scheduling methods;
- Modern approaches to information and knowledge management;
- Organisational/human aspects of innovation in construction;
- Innovative Approaches to Facilities Management;
- Innovative Approaches to Construction/Project Management;
- Innovative Use of IT in Design and Construction;
- Theoretical and Conceptual Aspects of Innovation;
- Lessons from other Industry Sectors.
ABSTRACTS
Abstracts of papers intended for presentation at the conference are invited
on any of the topics stated above. Papers from industry practitioners
which describe aspects of innovation on real-life projects are particularly
welcome. Abstracts should not exceed 400 words and must include the title
of the paper, names and affiliations of all authors, contact details
(including e-mail address) for the corresponding author, and up to 4 keywords.
