GMD -Forschungszentrum Informationstechnik GmbH is the German national
research labs in the field of information, media, and communication
technology. It is owned by the Federal Republic of Germany and the
states of
Northrhine-Westfalia, Hesse, and Berlin, with headquarters in Sankt
Augustin
near Bonn. Further sites include Berlin, Darmstadt, and an external
office
in Tokyo. About 980 researchers work in its institutes and independent
projects. GMD has a budget of roughly 95 mio. EURO of which about one
third
is covered by externally funded projects.
GMD and the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics, and Natural Sciences at
RWTH Aachen (Aachen University of Technology) intend the joint
appointment
of a tenured
Associate Professor (C3) of Computer Science (Cooperation Systems).
The research focus should be in the field of internet-based cooperation
environments and their applications in distributed enterprises, in
public
administration or in higher-level education and continuous education.
The position is attached to the department of computer science at RWTH
Aachen. For initially five years, the appointee will be on leave to take
over a position of Associate Director at the Institute of Applied
Information Technology (FIT, http://fit.gmd.de) at GMD in Sankt Augustin
–
Birlinghoven.
Prerequisites for hiring include the habilitation of equivalent
scientific
results (similar to tenure requirements at leading American
universities),
as well as good teaching abilities. Moreover, applicants should be able
to
demonstrate strong experience in managing signicant research groups and
in
acquiring cooperation projects with industry.
Hiring follows the rules of § 49 UG (NRW). Handicapped applicants will
