Senior Research Fellow/Research Fellow
Work, Interaction and Technology Research Group
King's College London
We are seeking applications for one or two research positions. The
positions are available for up to two and half years and one of the
appointments can be at senior level.
The successful candidate(s) will be expected to undertake research
concerned with social interaction in organisational settings and in
particular to examine the ways in which tools, technologies and
artefacts
feature in communication and collaboration. The research will also
involve
exploring how naturalistic studies of work and interaction can
contribute
to the design, development and deployment of advanced technologies.
One of the positions involves undertaking research into the operation of
control and surveillance centres in urban transport systems in the UK
and
abroad. The research will include undertaking video-based field studies,
informing the design of prototype systems, supporting the evaluation of
prototypes, and contributing to the development of deployment
strategies.
The second position will involve video based field studies of the ways
in
which paper and digital artefacts are used by children and students, as
well consider their role in number of other domains such as work
environments and museums and galleries. The research will involve
supporting the design and evaluation of the prototype systems and
developing exploitation strategies for new technologies.
The successful candidate(s) will work closely with members of the Work,
Interaction and Technology research group. Members of the group are
currently undertaking studies in such areas as transport, the media,
medicine, and museums and galleries.
Applicants with either a background in the social or the computer
sciences
will be considered for the positions. An interest in Ethnomethodology
and
Conversation Analysis would be a particular advantage, as would
significant
experience in undertaking field research.
The positions are primarily for applicants which have research
experience
and have gained, or about to gain, their doctorate. However applications
from less experienced applicants will also be considered.
