Research Studentship
Department of Social Policy and Social Work
The Department is able to fund a single postgraduate research
studentship tenable for up to three years from September 2000. In 1999
the value of the award was stlg6620 per annum. Applicants are invited to
submit a research proposal for consideration by the research degrees
committee, and shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview at
the University.
The Department has a strong research culture, with a good record in
producing quality research publications and attracting external
research funding. The Department is organised into three academic
groupings, namely social policy, social work, and criminal justice.
Broadly, these three groupings also reflect the areas of research
expertise within the Department, and we will consider applications in
any of these broad areas. We do, however, have particular strengths in
the following areas: o community justice (community safety, policing,
victimology, youth justice) o social exclusion and anti-poverty
strategies o the comparative analysis of social policy (e.g. health,
social security) and criminal justice (e.g. policing, youth justice
and victim service) issues o health policy o social work education,
theory and knowledge o family services o gerontology
Application forms can be obtained from Cher Cressey, Faculty of Human
Sciences, University of Plymouth, Drake Circus, Plymouth, PL4 8AA
