WebApp Server - an illustration of the pursuit of good OO development
providing its own reward
Chris Hibbert, MSG Business Systems
WebApp Server is an Object-oriented Application Development system for
the Internet. It uses 3-tier architecture, separating the Business Logic
tier from the HTML browser and also from the Database Management System.
It currently achieves this by utilising Microsoft's Dynamic iNternet
Architecture (DNA) components - Common Object Model (COM), Internet
Information Server (IIS) and Active Server Pages (ASP), but migration to
Unix/Linux is in the pipeline.
WebApp Server is a high-level language which does not require a knowledge
of Java. It is the culmination of 10 years' evolution of a commercially
successful Object-oriented development system designed for conventional
platforms (Windows and DOS LANs, Unix, Linux). This development has been
led and influenced more by the user community than by its official owners.
The intention is to trace the development history and resulting
characteristics of this new product, which now provides a unique and
simple approach to Internet application development.
