Dear All,
The continuing-education mailbase list is now the continuing-education jiscmail
list.
As you may or may not know, the Mailbase service at Newcastle lost the contract
to provide the National Academic Mailing List Service to the Council for the
Central Laboratories of the Research Councils (CCLRC). The new service
provided by CCLRC is called JISCmail (JISC = Joint Information Systems
Committee: see http://www.jisc.ac.uk for more info on them).
The transfer of the Mailbase service to JISCmail took place over the weekend of
25/26 November, and the JISCmail service began on Monday 27 November 2000.
As a list member there is very little that you have to do.
Below are some questions, provided by JISCmail, with some responses which will
explain this changes.
1) RECEIVE POSTINGS - Any postings to the list will arrive at your same
mailbox as before.
2) POST TO YOUR LIST - You are asked to use post messages to
[log in to unmask]
(mailto:[log in to unmask]) from now onwards. If you forget to
do this do not worry as we have arranged with Mailbase to re-direct messages
for your list on to JISCmail service.
3) NEW PASSWORD - You may very well never need a password. As a list member
it will only become necessary for you to register a password if you wish to use
the Web to post to the list or change your list membership options, such as
mail or digest. In order to register a password go to the JISCmail Home Page
www.jiscmail.ac.uk and follow the navigation provided.
Don't worry if you forget your password, it is very easy to register a new
one.
4) CONTINUING-EDUCATION home page on the web - There is a web page for your
list (http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/continuing-education.html). It contains
amongst other things access to stored
archives messages. This means that you do not have to keep copies cluttering up
your mailbox if you do not wish to. This page also permits you to post to the
list and well as changing your personal membership settings.
5) FILES - Any files associated with the CONTINUING-EDUCATION list will also
be visible from the list home page.
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/continuing-education.html you may wish to check
these from time to time.
6) JOIN or LEAVE - Should you wish to leave the list CONTINUING-EDUCATION for
some reason. Both the join and leave instructions are the same as they where at
mailbase. The only difference is that you are asked to
mailto:[log in to unmask] instead of [log in to unmask]
A User Guide to using JISCmail is available on the JISCmail Website:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/jiscmail-guides.htm
Finally, if you find you do not understand or have experienced some difficulty
using JISCmail. Please contact the helpline on 01235 446780
or mailto:[log in to unmask] or alternatively you may wish to
contact your list owner (me or Ian Ground) if you feel it is relevant to them.
Best wishes,
Andrew
