Happy New Year to everyone from FACE (Forum for the Advancement of Continuing
Education)!
As part of our developing programme of activities, we would like to give you
early warning of 3 events coming up this year.
1. FACE London WP Seminar, 18 February 2000
This is a follow-up event which picks up the strands of last year's seminar.
Hosted again by Government Office London (many thanks as always to Laurie
Taylor), we hope to attract participants involved in Widening Participation
projects in London and the SE, as well as anyone interested in hearing the
latest from HEFCE, FEFC and GO. (Outline programme is an attachment to this
mailing - let me know if you can't read it)
Booking is likely to be brisk and there are only about 50 places so please
reserve yours quickly by sending me an e-mail, fax or phone message.
2. FACE Conference 2000. Ruskin College. Monday 10 - Wednesday 12 July 2000
This year, we are very pleased to announce that our hosts are Ruskin College,
Oxford. We feel that this is very appropriate in view of Ruskin's long
history in adult and continuing education in England and we are sure that
this will be a very popular event indeed. The focus is appropriately
'millennial' in that we will be looking towards the future for the continuing
education movement. The conference will also have a strong industrial
flavour.
Bob Fryer from UfI is a confirmed key-note speaker and we will also have
contributions from colleagues in Europe and the USA as well as local
perspectives in work-based learning and the usual high quality contributions
from our own members and colleagues.
Please get in touch early to reserve your place and particularly if you are
interested in offering a paper. We would be very pleased to hear from you.
The full programme will be posted when it has been finalised.
3. 'Creating Learning Pathways' - Towards a Widening Participation Strategy
for Wales . North East Wales Institute, Wrexham. May 2000 (Exact date to be
confirmed)
This is a joint event between FACE and NEWI. These are exciting times for
public policy in Wales and we are delighted to be able to help make a
contribution to the debate about life-long learning issues that are at the
forefront of the work of the new Welsh Assembly.
We hope to have speakers from the Assembly, from FE, and from the many local
networks from throughout Wales to provide a platform from which lifelong
learning strategies can be taken forward.
We will post further details here immediately they become confirmed.
To book for any of these events, please mail me at: [log in to unmask]
N.B. If anyone is interested in partnering us to arrange a similar (or
different!) event this autumn, please get in touch as well.
Very Best Wishes
Howard Parker
