Foundation Degrees: Taking up the Challenge
Wednesday 3 May 2000, London

This conference is being organised jointly by the Committee of Vice
Chancellors and Principals (CVCP), Standing Conference of Principals
(SCOP), The Universities Association for Continuing Education (UACE) and
the National Organisation for Adult Learning (NIACE).

In February, the Government announced the introduction of a new HE
qualification, the Foundation Degree. The aim as described in the
Consultation Document is to create a 'continuum of learning' where people
can expect to move in and out of education throughout their lives. Key to
this is the establishment of a new broad-based two-year qualification
aimed particularly, but not exclusively, at those in work, to be developed
at local level by consortia comprising HE, FE and employers. A Design
Group has been established to advise on the first stages of the process
and to steer through the initial pilot phase.

The aim of the Conference, following hard on the DfEE's consultation, is
to examine the wide-ranging implications of the proposals for lifelong
learning and widening participation in HE and to explore how progress can
be made in this next phase in the expansion of Higher Education.

A programme & booking form can be downloaded from the NIACE website at:
