Our institution is going to be replacing its student records system in the
next couple of years and is currently carrying out a consultation with
departments. We (The Centre for CE) have recently moved from using our own
Access-based custom-designed departmental system to inputting student data
on the Unix-based institution system. I won't bore you with the reasons why
we did this, but I'd be interested to find out what other CE departments do
with their student record data.
Do you have your own customised system, but return to HESA through the
institution's system? If so, how does this work?
Do you use the institution's system? If so, how do you get around the
differences in terms of recording the provision (are there any differences?)
Do you have your own system, separate from the institution's, and return
directly to HESA? If so, what are the benefits / drawbacks of this?
Do you use an entirely different system for returning your students to HESA.
If so, what?
I would be grateful for any help on this. Please respond off-list and I will
post a summary of any replies I get. If any of you are going to be at the
Aberystwyth Administrator's conference, I'd be happy to meet with you to
talk through some of the issues.
Many thanks - Eluned Evans
