See IEEE_SELECTED_REAL_KIND in the f2k draft. That part of the f2k
draft is pretty "set" as it is from one of the ISO TRs that were
essentially promissed to be incorporated into f2k unless significant
technical problems showed up. ( I doubt that preferring a different
spelling would go over as a significant techical problem).
And yes it returns -1 if there is no such kind.
