Let's face it, ** will always remain an exponentiation symbol in
Fortran for backward compatibility. However, people who must deal with
several languages (like me) would certainly appreciate being able to use ^
as well. I seem to type ^ instead of ** about once a week, but fixing it
is not that much of a big deal.
