I'll not comment at all on the rest of this thread. But on the above
point only, note that there are others. There is certainly the case
of "//". And although although the result is a delimitter instead of
an operator, we also have "(/" and "/)". Not that I'm particularly
fond of the latter two. There's an ongoing thread about them also,
(either here or on comp.lang.fortran - I have trouble recalling which
threads are in which place) but I'll stay out of it.
