AFAIK, the usual way is to run gdb from the directory where the
source files are located. gdb with g77 has a number of
limitations, but not being able to see the source code should
not be among them. I have run gdb with g77 on linux, hpux, and
Windows, and there certainly are other OS where it works. There
have been some difficulties with the latest version of gdb for
Windows 2000.
