Actually I had a compiler error (on Fortran 90 on an IBM SP) similar to
this (i.e. "INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR" - the compiler didn't ask me to
report a bug) a while ago and the local helpdesk said that it occurred
because 'my code was too complicated' for the compiler which used some
sophisticated optimisation (IPA - interprocedural analysis, I think) which
they suggested turning off with a compiler option,
